Israel Poems

I.     The Desert

II.    Camel Riding

III.   Three Beers and the Water

Before my senior year, I had the opportunity to travel to Israel for 10 days on a Birthright trip. During my visit, I wrote a set of nine short poems. My song cycle, Israel Poems, highlights three of these poems: “The Desert,” “Camel Riding,” and “Three Beers and the Water.” which together form a story arch. None are actually about Israel itself, but are episodic love poems set with Israel as their background. Together these three songs form a story arc.

Three Abstractions for E-flat Saxophones

I.    a second but a third of a second faster

II.    slower than a second

III.    half of a second

Three Abstractions for E- Flat Saxophones was written in the Fall of 2014. Each movement is named for the duration of the dotted quarter note relative to a second of time. Rather than the typical instrumentation for saxophone quartet, this piece uses three altos and a baritone in order to get a more uniform timbre and matching tone quality note to note.
